'The Universal Zine' - Kasper Pyndt

"I chose to design a one-piece book, making it possible to
read it in several different ways - I also designed an underlying
grid that allowed text and images to cut spreads. This means that
you have to use the books proportions to read it properly."

This caught my eye because of the layout of the front cover. The split text and image with a sleeve around the middle that functions as a contents page is a bit different to a conventional magazine, and the folded concertina format is exciting to read.

The composition of the text makes you want to turn the page, literally as some paragraphs overlap with neighbouring pages. Some of the text overlaps an image, almost making the shapes of the paragraphs part of the imagery themselves. There is no order to the layout of the photos, yet they are arranged in a way that makes reading the magazine exciting and rewarding.

The back cover matches the front, with a photo cut in half. It rounds up the feature nicely and gives a sense of continuity.
