Excerpt from 'Dirt' Mountain Bike Magazine - July 2012
I really like the layout of this page. The colours are limited to black, white and grayscale, really making the page stand out. It doesnt use the usual 'black on white' format found throughout most magazines, but uses white on black. I think that this really diverts the readers eyes toward the photo, creating a window on the right side of the spread. This really makes use of the light in the photo and is visually stimulating.
The layout of the image and text is also designed so that the left hand page matches the right hand page. This give a sense of symmetry and helps to keep the layout classy and professional.
I also really like the use of hand drawn text here, I think that it gives the reader an idea of the personality of the author, making the account a lot more personal - easier for the reader to relate to. The sketchy texture of the text also reflects that of the subject; a sport undertaken by anyone - whether profesional or not.
